For more than a century, Wisconsin Community Services, Inc. (WCS), has served some of Milwaukee’s and its surrounding counties’ more vulnerable residents—including those battling addiction, suffering from mental illness or formerly incarcerated—by helping them overcome barriers to achieving their full potential. In doing so, WCS is helping to create safer, stronger neighborhoods. A shared focus on strengthening community is one reason why, for nearly 75 years, WCS has entrusted Mutual of America with the retirement savings of its employees.

While nonprofit organizations generally can’t offer the same salary levels that private corporations and large government agencies do, most recognize the important role a retirement plan plays in attracting and retaining talented employees and helping those employees build financial security for the future.

“Offering a retirement plan is one way Wisconsin Community Services rewards employees for their dedication to the complex, often demanding mission of our organization, so it’s crucial that our employees understand this valuable benefit we provide,” said Clarence Johnson, Executive Director of WCS. “Mutual of America does an outstanding job of providing the right mix of online tools and calculators, personalized education and one-on-one support that our employees use and appreciate.”

“Mutual of America does a phenomenal job supporting our organization and our employees. We’re proud of our 74-year-long collaboration.”

According to WCS Plan Administrator Lori Sheets, Mutual of America’s commitment to meaningful innovation has kept the WCS plan relevant and responsive to changing employee needs and preferences; it also has streamlined her job in significant ways.

“Periodically, we consider other retirement plan providers, but no one comes close to the quality and support that Mutual of America offers.”

“SponsorConnect (Mutual of America’s online plan administration tool) is intuitive and simple to use. Their Payroll Integration service, which we implemented in 2019, has also greatly reduced the time I spend on plan administration and recordkeeping,” said Sheets.

“Payroll Integration securely links and syncs employee payroll information from our payroll provider to our retirement plan records, so changes to participant information are automatically processed and updated. This has helped reduce data errors and ensure that our employee contributions are applied on a timely basis, which gives me tremendous peace of mind.”
